A Political Scientist, Dr. Alidu Seidu has raised concerns over what he described as external influence on the work of MPs especially when the House has to vote on Bills.
Dr. Seidu was speaking on the Supreme Court’s Interpretation on the voting rights of the Deputy Speakers of Parliament which was initiated by a Private Legal Practitioner, Justice Abdulai.
Dr. Seidu is of the view that the influence of political parties on their MP’s resulted in the Deputy Speaker’s decision to vote on the E-Levy, while presiding, leading to the rejection by Opposition MPs.
Speaking with GBC News, Dr. Alidu Seidu called for amendment of the Standing Orders in Parliament and the 1992 Constitution to reflect the current nature of the Legislature.
