The President of the Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana Nana Obadie Boateng Bonsu has expressed concern on the politicization of the current cocoa industry crisis going on in the media

He complained about political interference in the sector and stated this practice was hindering growth in the cocoa sector pleading with politicians to stop meddling with the affairs of the Ghana Cocoa Board

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the announcement of cocoa producer price cut, the President of the Association said “political interference breeds corruption” and limits accountability.

He referred to a procurement of “jute bags worth millions of dollars by COCBOD” and questioned where the jute bag was currently insinuating it has gone missing.

Nana Bonsu believes political interference in such matters has led to little or no accountability and the accumulation of debt in the sector.

He pleaded with government to investigate thoroughly on the alleged mismanagement of funds at COCOBOD and sought that culprits caught be prosecuted to serve as a prevention of similar acts in the future

He also called for transparency at COCOBOD and urged the institution to practice regular stakeholder programs and activities that will address challenges in the sector.
