The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says Ghana will continue to lead efforts to push for reforms at the United Nations, in line with Africa’s demand for fairer representation at the global body.

‎In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa made the statement when he received the new United Nations Resident Coordinator to Ghana, His Excellency Zia Choudhurry. He said Ghana remains strongly committed to the principles of the UN Charter and the promotion of multilateralism as the organization marks its 80th anniversary.

‎“We are proud of our position as one of the top five contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping operations, and we will build on that,” the Minister noted.

‎He emphasized that Ghana will continue to support the African Union’s Ezulwini Consensus, which calls for reforms that would give Africa permanent representation at the UN Security Council.

‎Mr. Ablakwa also expressed the government’s desire to deepen its cooperation with the UN in all areas to help achieve President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting Ghana and fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He congratulated Mr. Choudhurry on his new role, describing him as a passionate development leader whose experience brings hope for Ghana’s progress.
