The Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite, who doubles as the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, has urged Ghanaians to always resort to peace in all their endeavors, as development cannot thrive in any society without peace.
He mentioned that chieftaincy disputes, factionalism, and hate speech destroy the very foundation of progress in society.
Nene Sakite was speaking during the Grand Durbar to climax the 132nd edition of the Ngmayem Festival at Odumase Krobo in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
He appealed to all traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and the youth to guard against divisions that weaken the collective strength of the country. He urged Ghanaians to respect and embrace peaceful processes in resolving conflict and encouraged all to uphold the dignity of the traditional stools and help protect the unity of the people.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, commended the entire Manya Krobo Traditional Council for their relentless efforts in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Krobos.
She stressed that the Ngmayem Festival is not just to celebrate the abundance of food harvest but also reminds all of the principles that have kept the Krobo people resilient for many generations through solidarity, diligence, respect for customs, and a strong commitment to community development.

Mrs. Awatey mentioned that the government remains committed to working with the Manya Krobo Traditional Council to promote development in Krobo land. She emphasized that the Somanya-Kpong road is set to be fixed under the “Big Push” agenda.
There were cultural displays amid drumming and dancing of Krobo traditional songs to mark the celebration.
