The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a warning of thunderstorms and rainfall affecting parts of southern Ghana, as a rainstorm system moves inland from the Gulf of Guinea.

In an update based on its afternoon forecast, the Agency indicated that a moderate rainstorm positioned offshore between Benin and Togo has already generated rain-bearing clouds over the southeastern parts of the country.

GMet explained that the system is currently causing localised thunderstorms and varying levels of rainfall across the Volta, Eastern and Greater Accra regions.

The Agency added that the weather pattern is expected to spread further within these areas before extending to parts of the Central and Ashanti regions later on.

It cautioned that communities in low-lying areas could face flooding if the rains continue, and advised residents to take precautionary measures.

GMet also noted that strong winds may accompany the storm, posing potential risks to lives and property.
