Ghana seems not to be getting value for money when it comes to rent payments for its Missions abroad. This was captured in the 2020 Auditor General’s report.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been reacting to the issue at its appearance at the Public Accounts Committee sittings in Accra.

Member of the Committee and Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Samuel Atta Mills enquired from the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, Ramses Joseph Cleland, the number of facilities purchased through mortgage as this, in his view, may reduce cost.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, in a response to a question from the Chairman of the PAC on government policy on accommodation, said the government intends to acquire properties for all missions.

He also appealed to the House for support to get funding, since it is not easy to get a mortgage abroad.
