The government has endorsed the findings and recommendations contained in the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to President John Dramani Mahama in Accra on Tuesday, December 17, 2025.
The endorsement was announced in a statement signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
The Statement said Government has fully endorsed the findings and recommendations of the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report, describing it as a fact-based and forward-looking roadmap for lasting peace, reconciliation, and stability in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
Reaffirming the position of the law as upheld by the Supreme Court, the Government stated that Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II remains the lawful Bawku Naba, and that no individual or group may challenge his authority. It also accepted the recommendation that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, installed as a rival claimant, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to assume an alternative traditional role, with State support.
Acknowledging the severe socio-economic impact of the protracted conflict, President Mahama has directed the establishment of a GHS1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund to be disbursed between 2026 and 2028.
The fund will support infrastructure development in roads, healthcare, education, irrigation, security, and commercial facilities to restore Bawku’s economic vitality.
The Government called on all stakeholders to support the peace and reconciliation process and expressed gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and other traditional leaders for their role in the mediation, stressing that there are no winners or losers in the process.
