The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited as part of efforts to advance environmental cleanliness, climate resilience, innovation and sustainable job creation across the country.
Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, made the announcement on Friday, December 12, during the climax of the Jospong Annual Thanksgiving Service 2025 held at the Group’s head office in Adjirigarnor, Accra.
He described Zoomlion as a strategic national development partner, stressing that its work directly supports key government priorities including local service delivery, environmental health, youth employment and modernised waste management. “The government is ready to deepen its partnership with Zoomlion and the wider Jospong Group to build a Ghana where cleanliness, resilience, innovation and job creation become everyday realities,”
According to the Minister, Zoomlion’s expansion and impact place it among Ghana’s most significant corporate success stories. He situated its achievements within a broader historic narrative:
The first wave of African transformation led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The second wave marked by Ghana’s football dominance. And the third wave, he said, is Zoomlion’s expansion across Africa, becoming a symbol of Ghana’s rising continental influence.
He revealed that only Ghana and Morocco impressed officials during a sanitation benchmarking mission to South Korea, crediting this to the “36 completed composting, recycling and waste treatment plants”—the largest such infrastructure in West Africa—constructed through the public-private partnership. This network of facilities, the Minister said, played a major role in Ghana being named the UN’s Sanitation and Waste Management Hub for West Africa in 2025.
Tracing the group’s beginnings, he noted that Zoomlion has grown from a “small office in Jamestown” to a conglomerate operating: In over 24 African countries
with 78 subsidiaries across 14 sectors
“No Ghanaian company matches this continental presence,” he said, calling the achievement historic, inspirational, and a testament to Ghanaian excellence.
In his welcome address, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, attributed the company’s journey, from a single printing press in 1995 to a multinational industry leader to divine providence and consistent state support.
“Thus far has the Lord helped us,” he disclosed that Zoomlion currently operates 36 functional plants, covering solid waste, liquid waste and medical waste treatment, positioning Ghana as a centre of industrial excellence on the continent.
Dr. Agyepong also acknowledged the pivotal roles played by successive Ghanaian leaders including the late Jerry John Rawlings, late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and former President John Dramani Mahama alongside First Lady Lordina Mahama.
He described the group’s story as “a manifestation of divine covenant, revelation and mystery” a national testament to what is possible with vision, discipline and support.
The strengthened partnership between government and the Jospong Group, the Minister noted, reflects a shared vision for a cleaner, healthier and more resilient Ghana.
As Zoomlion continues to expand its continental footprint and deepen its technical capacity, government says it remains committed to supporting initiatives that transform the nation’s sanitation landscape and create sustainable jobs for the next generation.
The 2025 Jospong Thanksgiving Service ended with renewed calls for collaboration, innovation and national unity to achieve a greener and more prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
