At least eight herdsmen have been killed in suspected reprisal attacks on Zakole, a herder community in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern region. The attacks follow the killing of a Teacher of Dagbon State Senior High School Jacob Koila in a suspected armed robbery attack at Zagban on the Yendi-Zabzugu road.
Angered by the killing of the teacher, some locals mobilized themselves and went on a rampage killing at least eight persons.
Sources in Yendi have told GBC News that herdsmen in the area are living in fear and have therefore appealed for protection. The Northern Regional Police Command has confirmed the attacks saying they are deploying police personnel to the community to restore law and order.
