The MP for Wa West and Member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Peter Lanchene Toobu, says he is excited Dr. Akuffo-Dampare was appointed the new IGP. He said with a complicated Police Service, the institution needed a dynamic leader with a quest for excellence to lead it. Speaking on GBC’s current affairs programme FOCUS, which discussed the new IGP, and his leadership style, Mr. Toobu urged Ghanaians to support the IGP for him to provide the needed peace and security everybody needs.
”Dr. George Akuffo- Dampare comes to this job with a span of experience, lucky enough for him, he is one of the youngest in the 4th Republican democracy so learning from these practices and the mistakes from his predecessors,he is supposed to expel. So it’s not surprising that he has put down some measures that excite the Ghanaian public and people say they will support him to succeed.
He has the experience, and if we decide to support him, he will succeed. And what if the people decide to pull him down, he will fail, he has the passion, he has experience, the energy and with the support of the Ghanaian people, he will make an impact. Dr. Akuffo-Dampare comes in with a two approaches, how does he motivate the police to go out there to work and how to win the public trust”.
The MP for Sisala East Amidu Issahaku for his part believes Dr. Akuffo-Dampare is fit for the role as IGP because he has risen through the ranks and has headed almost all departments in the service. He, therefore, comes with a depth of experience and knowledge required for the job.
A Security Analyst, Dr. Prosper Nii Nortey Addo, commended the IGP for the courage he has displayed so far and urged him to maintain consistency because a lot would be required of him to maintain the standard set.
