A 35-year-old woman, Faustina Ackom, was shot on Sunday by her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, on suspicion of infidelity at Anum in the Assin North district of the Central region.

Faustina was allegedly shot during a dispute over infidelity allegations.

Faustina sustained injuries on her inner left arm and her breast and is currently receiving treatment at the St Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.

The couple have been married for 10 years with four children.

According to eyewitnesses, they heard Faustina calling for help around 1:00 am on Sunday.

One of them, Lydia Yeboah, said the suspect, who had been sick for some time now suspected his wife, a trader, of cheating on him.

Bukari was said to have found some phone numbers on his wife’s phone and woke her up around 12:30 am on Sunday to question her since he suspected his wife was cheating on him with the people behind those phone numbers.

Witnesses said in the ensuing argument, Bukari allegedly shot her in the left arm and breast when the victim attempted to flee the scene.

Faustina’s cry for help attracted the attention of neighbours who rushed to the scene to help her.

The suspect was said to have fled the scene immediately after the attack and is currently on the run.

Residents said the suspect may have fled to Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.

Police investigations are underway.

A team from the Assin Fosu divisional police command has visited the victim at the hospital to assess the extent of her injuries and gather firsthand information.
