Supreme Court Justice nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has strongly opposed any attempts to suppress investigative journalism in the name of protecting the judiciary, stating that once a report is fair and factual, it deserves to be published.

Speaking during his vetting in Parliament on Monday, June 16, 2025, Justice Dzamefe firmly denied reports that he once called for the blocking of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposé on judicial corruption, which some claimed had tarnished the image of the judiciary.

“I don’t remember saying that. Those are not my words,” he clarified, adding that he does not support the suppression of any credible investigative work. “Generally, I wouldn’t recommend repressing any investigative journalist who wants to do a thorough job. Once it’s true, why would I recommend suppression? No, I wouldn’t,” he stated.

Justice Dzamefe stressed the need for accountability and transparency in public institutions, including the judiciary. He emphasized that investigative journalism, when done responsibly, plays a crucial role in holding powerful institutions to account.

His comments come in response to a question posed by the vetting committee, referencing a TV3 News report suggesting that he had previously criticized the Anas exposé and implied it should have been blocked.

Justice Dzamefe, however, rejected that claim, making it clear that he supports press freedom and sees no reason to oppose investigative journalism that is conducted fairly and truthfully.

“If it’s fair and thorough, it must be published,” he insisted.
