Many students of Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School in the Oti Region collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday after a fierce fire swept through one of the boys’ dormitory rooms, creating panic across the school.

The incident happened around 9:00 a.m. on December 2, 2025, when flames engulfed an entire dormitory room. The fire destroyed all items in the room, including students’ personal belongings, and badly damaged the roofing structure.

Efforts to put out the fire were slowed because the district fire tender was not functioning. Firefighters who arrived at the scene had to rely on improvised methods to fight the fire, allowing the flames to spread quickly.

The situation caused fear among students, with many rushing to help move items from nearby rooms to safety.

School authorities, together with members of the community, worked swiftly to support the affected students. Students who collapsed were given immediate medical attention and have since been stabilised.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
