The Nurse Manager at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Dorcas Asamoah Nyamekye, has appealed to corporate organizations and philanthropists to come to the aid of women who come to the hospital to deliver babies and help settle their bills.
According to her, some of the new mothers and their babies remain at the hospital because of their inability to pay for the services they receive during and after labour due to their financial difficulties, and that spirited individuals and organizations supporting them financially would help relieve them and their newborns of the emotional and psychological problems.

Madam Nyamekye made the appeal when a team from MTN Ghana visited KATH to present gifts to babies born on Christmas Day.
The Nurse Manager disclosed that the hospital recorded 13 deliveries on Thursday, December 25, 2025, Christmas Day, and noted that some mothers struggle to settle medical bills after childbirth.
“We appreciate this support, but sustained assistance would make a bigger difference”, Madam Nyamekye pleaded.
She thanked MTN Ghana for the benevolence.
The MTN Ghana team, led by the Area Sales Manager for Ashanti, Bono and Bono East, Obed Adu-Amankwaah, presented hampers to all the newborns.
The hampers, which contained diapers, detergents, toys and personal care products, were aimed at easing immediate costs for mothers who delivered on the day.
The Area Sales Manager explained that, “Christmas is not only about celebration but also about giving.”
Mr. Adu-Amankwaah noted that the charity is part of MTN Ghana’s annual nationwide outreach to support babies born on 25 December.
He said the presentation, which was extended to mothers at the Child and Mother Hospital at Pampaso and the Suntreso Government Hospital, also in Kumasi, was part of the 700 hampers distributed across Ghana this year by the telecommunication company.
According to Mr. Adu-Amankwaah, the annual initiative, now in its 14th year, reflects the company’s commitment to society, especially its operational areas.
The beneficiary mothers described the donation as timely, saying the gesture added meaning to giving birth on Christmas Day.
