The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has assured workers at the Damang Mine that no jobs will be lost during the planned takeover of the facility.

He said all existing contracts will be honoured and no staff will be displaced as ownership of the mine changes.

Speaking during a working visit to the mine on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the minister noted that measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth transition and maintain stability among workers.

Mr. Buah made the remarks after leading Parliament’s Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources to assess preparations ahead of the takeover.

The current mining lease, held by Gold Fields, is expected to expire on April 18.

According to the minister, the assurance of job security comes from President John Dramani Mahama, whose focus is on protecting workers and their families.

“This assurance is coming from the President. His focus is on the people who work here. Those who have families need to be protected,” he said.

He added that the involvement of Members of Parliament is to ensure an orderly transition, uninterrupted operations, and the safety of workers at the mine.

The government is expected to work on a new lease arrangement to sustain operations and protect jobs at the Damang Mine.
