The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has promised to reduce the Hajj fare should he be elected president in 2025.

He said the current hajj fare pegged at GHS 75,000.000 prevented many Muslims from travelling to Mecca for the hajj.

Mr Mahama was speaking at the 2024 Eid Adha celebration by the first aid group of Ahlussan Wal Jama ‘A’ at the forecourt of the state house.

“We are worried about many things, as we speak, our pilgrims are in Mecca performing the hajj. May Allah bring them back to us. Those who have been able to go are the privileged ones, because with hajj fares pegged at GHS 75,000.000, it is very difficult for the ordinary Muslim to perform the hajj.”

“But by God’s grace, if we win this election and come into government, we are going to work to reduce the hajj fare to enable everyone to perform the hajj,” he added.

Mr Mahama also said he has presented the Muslim manifesto to the NDC’s drafting manifesto committee to consider the provisions suggested in the Muslim manifesto.

“I received the Muslim manifesto some months ago, and I have submitted it to the NDC’s drafting committee, so I want to assure all Muslims that, you will see many of your policy suggestions in the NDC’s manifesto,” he emphasised.

The Ahlussuna prayers were led by the Deputy National Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed. The prayers centered on peace for the country before, during, and after the general election.
