The Ministry of Roads and Highways has clarified that its decision decreeing that toll collection be stopped across the country following the abolishing of Road and Bridge Toll  in the 2022 Budget, was to intervene in the chaotic situation that occurred at the some Booths.

A statement issued by the Ministry said soon after the Finance Minister announced the stoppage of the toll collection, some motorists misunderstood the announcement and engaged in fisticuffs with Toll Booth Operators.

To stop this from degenerating, the statement said, the Ministry issued the earlier directive ordering the suspension of the collection.

The Ministry wishes to assure the public that the action taken was to suspend the operationalization of the toll collection and not to suspend the law.
