A Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and MP for Ho Central, Benjamin Kpodo says the economic crisis bedeviling the country is a direct result of mismanagement of government. For his government, attributing the problem to the outbreak of Covid-19, and recently the Russian and Ukraine conflict is untenable, as the problem had earlier been identified by the World Bank. Mr. Kpodo made the assertion when he appeared on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme FOCUS, which discussed the current economic crisis in the country. He added that the increase in the policy rate by the Bank of Ghana though commendable came too late.

”We are in a crisis and there’s no denial in the fact that that has been caused by the mismanagement of the economy ……………………the Economic Management team, there is no doubt! You see, the interesting thing is that, should I call it luck? They have Covid to refer to and recently they started referring to the Russian- Ukrainian war, but the World Bank had noted this much much earlier”.

Reacting to the assertion, MP for Kwadaso Dr. Kinsley Nyarko, said Mr. Kpodo failed to point out any sector that has been mismanaged. He said unless the foundation of the economy is-restructured the problem would be ever recurring.

”He didn’t mention a single act that suggests that the economy has been mismanaged. if we say over expenditure, what is meant by that? The same challenges, as for me it’s systemic and until we are able to deal with that and alter the fundamentals it is going to be a cyclical ritual”, he said.
