The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has announced that government and MultiChoice Ghana have agreed to set up a joint committee to review and reduce DStv subscription prices.
This follows weeks of tension between the ministry and the pay-TV operator after regulators demanded a 30 percent cut in subscription fees.
Earlier, the ministry imposed a statutory fine of GH¢10,000 per day on MultiChoice for failing to provide required pricing data under the Electronic Communications Act. It also warned that the company’s operating licence could be suspended if prices were not reduced by September 6, 2025.
Addressing journalists in Accra on Friday, September 5, 2025, Mr. George said the committee will include representatives from the ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Ghana, and MultiChoice Africa.
“I will personally chair the committee. MultiChoice initially asked for 30 days, but we believe 14 days is enough to conclude this matter. They have accepted there will be a reduction, and now we must decide the level of reduction,” he explained.
The outcome of the committee’s work is expected to be announced by end of September.
