NAIMOS taskforce member dies in Obuasi fatal accident during anti-galamsey operation

A member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce has died after an operational vehicle crashed near the Obuasi Airport area in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, 19th November 2025.

In a statement issued the same day, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources said the accident occurred during a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at clamping down on illegal mining activities within the enclave.

According to the Ministry, the officer died on the spot, while four others who sustained serious injuries are receiving medical treatment.

The Ministry added that a full investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring the public of its commitment to the safety and welfare of all personnel engaged in the fight against illegal mining.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care,” the statement added.
