The National Theatre of Ghana has launched its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening artistic excellence, expanding access to culture and ensuring long-term sustainability in the country’s creative arts industry.
The initiative is designed to reposition the Theatre as a dynamic and globally competitive cultural hub, responding to evolving technological, economic and artistic demands within Ghana and beyond.
Board Chairperson, Amarteorkor Amarteifio, noted that the Theatre has over the years played a key role in nurturing musicians, playwrights, and performing artists, while also equipping individuals with creative skills that contribute to national development.
She emphasised that the new strategic direction is anchored on relevance, resilience, accountability and financial sustainability, adding that it reflects the changing needs of the creative ecosystem.
The plan, developed through extensive consultations involving the Board, management, staff and industry stakeholders, focuses on digital innovation, partnerships, talent development and increased internally generated revenue.
Acting Executive Director, Henry Herbert Malm, said efforts are already underway to engage staff and key players in the creative space to ensure broad understanding and support for the implementation of the strategy.
Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, commended the inclusive and transparent process behind the development of the plan. She described the Theatre as a beacon of artistic expression and a custodian of Ghana’s cultural heritage, expressing confidence that the new strategy will drive innovation, capacity building and stronger collaboration with the private sector, academia and the wider creative community.
The Strategic Plan is expected to enhance sustainability, boost cultural tourism and position Ghana more prominently on the global creative arts stage, while contributing to job creation and growth within the creative economy.
