Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasised the critical role of women in leadership and the importance of strategic collaboration between women in government and those in media.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted that trust, credibility, and accountability are central to effective leadership.

Speaking at the First Annual National Forum on Women in Government & Media held at the Presidency, she noted that public trust is earned through clear communication, competence, and transparent policies.

“When gender issues are reduced to clickbait, the public is denied substance. We must refuse to be shaped in other people’s images. We must have faith in ourselves,” she said.

The Vice President further urged women occupying editorial and leadership positions in media to use their influence to clarify complex policy issues, elevate credible expertise, and expose harmful practices, thereby contributing meaningfully to national development.

She stressed that countries that intentionally inspire women into decision-making roles build stronger institutions, more stable governance outcomes, and more inclusive growth. “Women are not only beneficiaries of development; we are among those shaping it,” she added.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also called for intentional relationships between women in governance and women in media to strengthen democratic accountability. “Democratic governance depends on informed citizens. Informed citizens depend on credible journalism and credible leadership. Let this forum signal that intentional relationship,” she said.

She concluded by urging women leaders to uphold standards, challenge assumptions, and shape national narratives responsibly to ensure that the story of Ghana’s development is accurately told.
