In an emotional national broadcast on the night of 7th August 2025, President John Dramani Mahama urged Ghanaians to come together in mourning and resist the temptation of speculation or partisanship following the fatal helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public servants.

“This is not a time for division, speculation, or political point-scoring,” he said. “It is a time for strength, for empathy, and for the enduring Ghanaian spirit.”

The President spoke with visible emotion as he read the names and positions of the deceased, including ministers, military officers, and political party executives.

Among them were:

•  Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence

•  Dr. Alhaji Murtala Muhammed – MP for Tamale Central, Minister for Environment, Science & Technology

•  Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

•  Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the NDC

•  Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate

•  Sqn. Leader Peter Bafemi Anala

•  Flying Officer, Twum Ampadu

•  Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah

President Mahama said the fallen “embodied the best of Ghana” and  that their memories must inspire a spirit of national unity.

“To the families, to the Armed Forces, to the ministries and institutions that have lost dedicated staff… may you find strength in their legacy,” he said.

The President closed with a prayerful wish: “May God bless their souls, and may God bless our homeland, Ghana.”
