The Northern Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for a woman suspected to have stolen a newborn baby from the One Heart Hospital at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.

According to the Police, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) received a complaint on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m., regarding the alleged theft of a baby boy from the hospital’s labour ward.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, posing as a nurse, entered the labour ward and took the newborn under the guise of administering an injection, but later vanished with the baby.

In connection with the incident, Police have picked up two nurses, Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, who were on duty at the time, along with the security guard on duty, Abukari Iddi, to assist with investigations.

The Police say intelligence-led operations are ongoing to trace the missing baby and apprehend the suspect and any other persons linked to the case.

The Northern Regional Police Command has assured the public that it is working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure the safe reunion of the baby with the family.
