The Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Accra New Town Congregation, on Good Friday was honored to host Liberia’s first female Defence Minister, Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George (Rtd), who is in the country for the Easter holidays.
In a remark, Brigadier General George expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for lifting her from humble beginnings to her current position. She encouraged the congregation to maintain their trust in God and believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Sharing her life experience, she urged Christians to continue trusting in God amidst challenges.
The Defence Minister’s visit is a testament to her commitment to her faith in the Lord Jesus and to connecting with other Christians beyond her official duties. Her humility and faith were evident as she shared her testimony and offered words of encouragement to the congregation.
“If God can take me from that place and bring me to a place of relevance and permanence, God can do it for any other person here. You know, sometimes we argue about whether the God we serve exists and decide to turn our backs on Him because our prayers have not been answered. I’m not here to argue whether God exists or not. We may not have the answers now, but God will make it happen at the appropriate time.”
“I just came to encourage you that whatever issues you are faced with, it is time to put them on the cross because our Father has already made a mockery of death on the cross.”

As Liberia’s first female Defence Minister, Brigadier General Geraldine Janet George (Rtd) brings nearly two decades of military experience to her role. She has held various positions, including Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia and Deputy Minister of Defense for Administration. Her international deployments include service with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).
The Minister-in-Charge, Rev. Frank Oguase Adu, on behalf of the ANT Congregation, together with the Associate Minister, Rev. Titus Tetteh Nanor, offered prayers for divine protection for her, her household, and the people of Liberia. Rev. Adu presented her with a Bible and a copy of the Presbyterian English Hymn Book, charging her to lead with godliness, humility, and love in her role.
