President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his readiness to assent to a bi-partisan bill that would allow Ghanaians living in the Diaspora to fully participate in the country’s political administration.

He noted that, once passed, the legislation would ensure that Ghanaians abroad would no longer need to renounce their citizenship to engage in governance.

Highlighting the economic role of the Diaspora, President Mahama said remittances were Ghana’s second-largest source of foreign exchange in 2025, contributing $7.8 billion, second only to gold.

The President made the remarks during a Diaspora Dialogue with Ghanaians in Philadelphia on Thursday, March 26, 2026, during his visit to the United States.

President John Mahama also encouraged the Diaspora to continue investing in strategic sectors of Ghana’s economy to support national development
