A pull out ceremony has been held for outgone Director of Takoradi Port, Captain Ebenezer Afadzi.
The colourful event was graced by Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, some hoard members, past directors, Management and Staff of GPHA, Service Commanders and the Clergy among others.
Captain Afadzi who became the Director of Port in 2015, started his career as a Navigation Officer on Merchant Ocean Going Vessels in 1990.

After nine years of working at sea, he joined the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, GPHA in July 1999 as a Pilot Trainee and passed out in the year 2000 as a Pilot.
He then became a Senior Pilot in 2002, Chief Pilot in 2005 and rose to the position of a Harbour Master and subsequently Director of Port in 2015.
During is tenure, the port saw massive improvements including the completion of the automated Dry Bulk Terminal project, new Liquid Bulk Terminal project, ATS Container and Multipurpose Terminal project and as well as the sod-cutting for the ongoing construction of the Oil and Gas Terminal among others.
Staff strength also grew from 830 to 1070.
Revenue generation has also increased not only from the oil and gas but from all other operations at the Port.
In his farewell message, Captain Ebenezer Afadzi thanks the board, management and staff for the support and cooperation which enabled him to execute his mandate.
He advised the staff of GPHA to render their unflinching support to the New Director, saying, “if the new Director succeeds the port also succeeds”.
He called on the new director to endeavour to carry his team along with whatever decisions he takes if he wants to go far in his career and leave positive footprints in the history of the Port.

Captain Afadzi further encouraged him to remember to seek strength and knowledge from God as leadership can be lonely.
The new Director of the Port of Takoradi, Mr Peter Amoo-Bediako commended his predecessor for the exceptional leadership skills portrayed during his tenure. “You were a mentor to me and encouraged and supported me in my journey to where I am”.
“Though you are going for a well deserved rest after giving your all to the Port, I will not hesitate to call on you for your rich counsel”, stated Mr Amoo-Bediako.

He noted that, under Captain Afadzi’s administration, the port experienced an incredible transition, from being a six berth port facility to an internationally acclaimed port with about 17 berths for all types of vessels.
Mr Amoo-Bediako assured of continuing the good works done by his predecessor and work together with the staff of GPHA to expand the frontiers of the port through hardwork, dedication and commitment.
He expressed appreciation to the Government and the board of directors for the confidence reposed in him to lead the Port of Takoradi.
