The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Ghanaians living in Qatar, Eric Siaw Nartey, has commended the Ghana Embassy in Doha for the consistency in keeping them safe in the midst of the recent escalating conflict between US, Israel and Iran.
The conflict began on February 28, 2026, with joint air attacks by Israel and the US on Iran aimed at regime change. The situation worsened after Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the strikes. Since then, Iran has retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases in the region.
The escalation directly affects Ghanaians abroad, including the Ghana Battalion in Southern Lebanon, which came under missile attack on March 6.
According to Mr. Nartey, essential services like hospitals and police are operating normally, with Al Wakra General Hospital open 24/7 and emergency services available within minutes. He added that once the national emergency number is dialed, the ambulance will be at people’s doorsteps and patients will be treated.
“The Ghana Embassy here in Doha has been on top of their game and we can say Kudos to them. They have always been in contact with us providing updates and support, even yesterday, they ensured we had our Independence celebration online,” he noted.
Speaking via zoom on GTV’s currect affairs program Current Agenda, Mr. Nartey assured that Ghanaians living in Doha were safe and stable at the moment, adding that evacuation plans are in place if the situation escalates. He also assured families back in Ghana of their safety and asked for their prayers in this trying time.
“For our families back in Ghana, we will tell them, just take care, keep praying for us for the situation to de-escalate from what it is at the moment to probably a zero,” he said on Saturday, March 7.
