The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) has launched an extensive training programme for small-scale miners in Bunso in the Eastern Region as part of government efforts to formalize and strengthen Ghana’s small-scale mining sector.
The initiative aims to equip miners with the knowledge, skills, and best practices needed to undertake responsible, safe, and environmentally sustainable mining activities.

Participants in the training will receive instruction on key areas including regulatory compliance, occupational health and safety, environmental protection, and modern mining techniques. The programme is expected to improve productivity within the sector while ensuring the preservation of communities and natural resources.
According to the organizers, the training forms part of broader government measures to promote responsible mining and address challenges associated with illegal and environmentally harmful mining practices.
rCOMSDEP noted that the programme aligns with its mandate to support responsible mining operations, improve livelihoods, and foster a more structured and accountable small-scale mining industry across the country.
The initiative is expected to enhance the capacity of miners to operate within established regulations while contributing to sustainable economic growth and environmental conservation.
