Government Statistician, Professor Samuel Kobina Annim, has been speaking on GBC’s program ‘TALKING POINT’ about the up-coming Population and Housing Census, where he appealed to the public to contribute to ensuring that the exercise is successful.
Answering a question on the quantum of money being spent on the census, Professor Annim said the full benefits of the ¢521.3 million will be realised after the data collected are fully utilised. He said the data will not only benefit the individual but the entire country in terms of future development.
Prof. Annim explained how some of the indicators, such as poverty levels, will be tracked in the counting process.
The Government Statistician gave the assurance that all data collected will be encrypted to ensure it is not compromised. He said the 2021 Census will be the best way to properly assess the impact of Covid-19 on Ghana and also monitor the country’s progress, so far as the SDGs are concerned.
On the question as to how people living in remote areas will be captured, Prof. Annim said work load aggregations have been adopted as a measure to ensure everyone is captured.
