Passengers traveling from Accra to Bolgatanga with the State Transport Company (STC) have expressed frustration after being stranded for several hours along the Amasaman–Nsawam road following a breakdown of their bus.
According to the affected travelers, they were scheduled to report to the Accra STC terminal at 2:00 p.m. for departure at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2025. However, they waited several hours as the bus underwent maintenance, causing the departure to be delayed until 8:00 p.m.
“We were supposed to report at 2 p.m. and depart at 3, but around 6 p.m. they started doing maintenance on the bus. The manager promised it would be ready in an hour, but we eventually left at 8 p.m.,” a passenger recounted.
Their journey was further disrupted around 10:00 p.m. when the bus reportedly broke down at Medie, a town along the Amasaman–Nsawam stretch.
“We’ve not even gotten to Nsawam or Nkawkaw and the car is broken down again,” another passenger lamented.
Passengers said they immediately contacted the STC station to report the incident and were assured that another vehicle would be dispatched to continue their journey. However, more than two hours later, no replacement bus had arrived, leaving them stranded by the roadside late into the night.
Several passengers described the situation as “unfair,” accusing STC of neglecting travelers on the Bolgatanga route.
“They don’t even respect the Bolga people,” one frustrated passenger said.
Others alleged that the company consistently assigns old and faulty buses to long-distance northern trips, while newer and more comfortable vehicles are reserved for shorter southern routes.
“This is not the first time this has happened. Anytime we are traveling to Bolga, we are given old buses that easily break down. Meanwhile, Bolga is one of the longest trips in the country. It’s as if STC doesn’t value us,” another passenger complained.
Some travelers also questioned why a 2016 model bus was assigned to such a long journey.
“They’ve given us a 2016 bus — can you imagine? A 2016 bus to Bolga,” a passenger fumed.
The passengers are calling on the Minister for Transport and relevant government authorities to intervene and ensure fair treatment and reliable services for travelers on the northern routes.

These guys working on behalf of Government at STC behave as if they are doing customers a favor especially people of the north and Bolgatanga to be precise. The offer the northerner a second class citizen status. Transport Minister, do the needful please and save your Ministry from these sa
