The Ghana Police Service has made significant strides in combating violent crime, particularly in the Ashanti Region. Three suspects; Aziz Abubakar (also known as Romeo), Faraway Amari, and Patient Asare, who were linked to the robbery and murder of Mr. Andrews Amankwaa, have been arrested.
The robbery and murder of Amankwaa occurred on February 10, 2026, and the suspects were arrested on 15 February 2026 in connection with a robbery network operating in Obuasi.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation at Mangoase near Pokukrom, where police raided several hideouts linked to the gang.
During the operation, authorities recovered a pump-action gun with ammunition, machetes, a bayonet, combat boots, one 9mm round, and GH¢20,000 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.
Investigations revealed that two of the suspects were also linked to the killing of three individuals at Breme near Bechem in the Bono Region in March 2025.
Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, emphasized the police service’s commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks.
“Criminal elements who threaten public safety will be pursued relentlessly and brought to justice,” he said, urging the public to continue providing credible information to support police efforts to fight crime.
