Deputy Director in Charge of Forecasting at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Joseph Portuphy says the Harmattan season in Ghana starts in November through to April the following year, and becomes severe in January.
This is contrary to the belief that the Harmattan period begins in January. He said Ghanaians should expect three waves of the Harmattan this year.
”To correct the impression, Harmattan in Ghana doesn’t start in January, it starts in November-December. For as along the coast and middle belt our Harmattan starts in the 2nd or 1st week in December and those in the north or transitional zones start from November so it’s not strange that the Harmattan has started in December, it’s the usual thing”.
