The General Council of the Trades Union Congress, TUC has called on Political parties and politicians to refrain from inflaming passions and politicizing the disturbances at Ejura.

It said it is unethical to politicize events in which fellow citizens have lost their lives.

The Council urged political parties and politicians to offer messages of hope, reconciliation, and unity and do all in their power to douse the flames and work towards preventing such unfortunate incidences in future.

In a statement issued after its general Council meeting at the PUWU center at Kasoa, the TUC appealed to the media to be circumspect in the way they report such incidences.

It noted that messages from some of the FM and TV stations are scary as they contain seeds for potential violence, insecurity and instability.

According to the TUC it matters not whether the messages are true or not.

When they are delivered in a manner that inflame passions and creates a general sense of insecurity, they serve no useful purpose. It urges the media to use its hard-won freedom with circumspection.

It said a free media must contribute to reducing tension, upholding social and political stability, and promoting economic development.

The TUC reassured its social partners that it will continue to work with them to address the multiplicity of challenges that face the country, especially during the period of economic recovery.
