The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. John Kapi, has announced that 14 persons have been arrested across the country for their involvement in various examination malpractices during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Speaking to the media in Accra on Friday, September 5, 2025, Mr. Kapi indicated that WAEC has deployed specially trained monitoring teams to examination centres nationwide to ensure the integrity of the exams. These teams uncovered several irregular activities, leading to the arrests.
Among the cases, two persons were arrested for impersonation at Ghana College, Kasoa. They have since been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment each, while their accomplices received eight months. At Christian Ideas School in Kukurantumi, the proprietor and one accomplice were arrested for creating a WhatsApp group where they shared exam questions and solutions.
In the Central Region, Ebenezer Fynn was arrested at Saint Vincent College in Abura Dunkwa for impersonation and has been arraigned before court. Similarly, Hannah Nariba, a student of Yeji Senior High School, was caught impersonating at Step to Destiny SHS in Yeji. Another suspect, Abdul Mumuni Hafiz, managed to escape before he could be apprehended.
In the Ashanti Region, Mr. Kodua Desmond was arrested at Abott College in Bekwai and has been remanded into police custody for two weeks. At Atwima Kwanwoma Presbyterian SHS, Osei Asibey Daniel was arrested for impersonation, while his contractor, Raymond Kwasi, was also arrested for hiring him to write the exam on behalf of another candidate, Obeng Dapaah Emmanuel.
Elsewhere in Yeji, Maxwell Chamba and Amaglo Livingston were arrested at Sefa Bonso Royal SHS for impersonation. A Physics teacher at Ahafoman SHS was caught with a mobile phone containing snapshots of Physics practical questions. At King James SHTS, an invigilator, Mr. Ernest Frimpong, was arrested with a phone that had exam questions and solutions.
In addition, at Mpraeso SHS, a former national service person, Patrick Issel, was arrested for aiding a candidate to copy solutions from his phone. Investigations revealed that the material was shared on a platform managed by an assistant supervisor, Michael Boateng, who has also been arrested.
