The Director of Field Operations for the United Party, Hopeson Adorye, has called on the Government of Ghana to take a firmer stance on South African companies operating in the country, urging them to support Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Speaking on GTV during a panel discussion on the topic “Ghana Launches Xenophobia Repatriation Aid,” Adorye argued that private South African firms operating in Ghana should contribute to the repatriation and welfare package for affected citizens returning home.

“Government should write a strong letter to MTN, MultiChoice and Gold Fields to contribute to the support package for repatriated citizens, instead of relying solely on taxpayers’ money,” he stated.

He argued that companies with significant operations in Ghana have a social responsibility to contribute to national support efforts, especially when citizens are being assisted through repatriation and reintegration programmes.

Adorye also suggested that a coordinated regional response through the African Union could help address recurring xenophobic tensions on the continent.

The discussion forms part of ongoing public debate following government efforts to support Ghanaians being repatriated from South Africa amid renewed xenophobic concerns.
