The Ghanaian Times says the clashes that occurred between Oguaa and the Atlantic Halls of the University of Cape Coast, UCC, is unfortunate. The paper says the destruction of property, including breaking of louvre blades and glass doors is unnecessary and calls on management to bring all the perpetrators to book. It urges the security agencies to be proactive to monitor and pick intelligence to avoid future clashes.

The Daily Graphic writes about the relief of customers following the announcement by the president in his State of the Nations Address that government had released ¢5 billion to refund money locked up in failed savings, loans and microfinance companies that the Bank of Ghana closed down last year. The paper believes the announcement will bring back life to depositors of the collapsed financial institutions. The paper says while the bailouts have helped to stabilise the industry they have also added to Ghana’s debt profile that the IMF estimated had risen from 59 to 63 percent of gross domestic product at the end of last year. The Daily Graphic is happy that the frequent agitation by some customers of the failed financial institutions over locked up funds will die down. It says as the government is commended for the bold efforts in settling the indebtedness of some failed private institutions, depositors and investors must also be cautious about where they invest or make savings.
