The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 has set a new benchmark in digital engagement after recording more than six billion views across social media platforms during the tournament.
According to figures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the competition also generated 5.2 billion video views. This makes it the most-watched continental football tournament in digital terms.
CAF officials say the surge in engagement reflects the growing appetite for African football content worldwide, driven by improved digital strategies and rising international interest in the tournament.
A major contributor to the record-breaking numbers has been the African diaspora community, which played a significant role in expanding the tournament’s audience base. CAF noted that millions of new users were reached across multiple regions, and strengthened the competition’s international footprint.
The strong digital performance also signals a shift in fan interaction, with supporters increasingly turning to mobile platforms and social media channels for highlights, match updates, behind-the-scenes content, and live reactions.
AFCON Morocco 2025 attracted widespread attention both on and off the pitch, with high-profile matches and strong broadcast viewership which complemented the online engagement figures.
CAF believes the digital success of the tournament provides a solid foundation for future competitions, as the governing body continues to invest in content distribution and fan engagement strategies to grow African football’s global profile.
