Some Ghanaian shop attendants at Chinese owned shops in Tema are in a state of anxiety as the deadly Coronavirus gains grounds in China.

At Tema Community 11 where a large concentration of Chinese shops is, GBC Radio Ghana observed that both Ghanaian and Chinese workers wear nose masks whiles attending to customers.

A Chinese National who gave her name as Stella Xinhua said it is essential to be proactive as the virus is really taking lives in China.

She added that though the virus has not been detected in Ghana, the citizens, as well as the government must be proactive in their efforts to protect the borders of the Country.

According to her, instructions have been given to the supervisors to provide mouth and nose protective gear to the workers to avoid the spread of any suspicious virus since mostly, Chinese Nationals patronize the shop.

Some of the workers who spoke on condition of anonymity said so far, no new Chinese citizen has been brought from China to replace other colleagues as used to be the norm.

There are more than 17,000 confirmed cases of the virus in China. Some 361 people have died there.

Outside China, there are more than 150 confirmed cases of the virus – and one death, in the Philippines.
