The Ghana Audit Service has announced that it would go fully electronic by the close of June this year.

Assistant Public Relations Officer of the Service, Bernard Conduah, who disclosed this at an encounter with journalists, convened by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, GACC, to mobilise support for an effective Asset Declaration Regime in Ghana, said the move is part of the government’s agenda to go paperless in most departments and agencies as a way of eliminating corruption.

Mr. Conduah said batches of IT specialists have been brought in and are currently pretesting the electronic platform to ensure that data is kept safe without others “hacking into the system’’.

He explained that one of the current challenges with the manual system is the cumbersome nature of keeping the information.

“Assuming all the 40 to 50 thousand entries declare their assets, where do we keep this data.’’

He said the online forms are free, adding that “individuals would be required to just log unto our services, complete the forms and submit’’.

“Another concern with the current manual system of assert declaration is that, there are not enough fields for providing detailed information and the electronic platform would eliminate that,” Mr. Conduah explained.

He said the online platform will also take care of property location challenges, because applicants will be required to fill in exact locations by listing their GPS addresses on the online platform entries.

Furthermore, payments would also be linked to the Controller and Accountant General’s payment systems to ensure that entries are properly aligned, and also ensure anomalies get detected.
