Ghana’s Black Stars have arrived in Puebla, Mexico, to continue their preparations for a high‑profile international friendly against FIFA World Cup co‑host Mexico, scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026.

The match is a key part of their pre‑World Cup build‑up ahead of the tournament in Mexico, Canada, and the United States in June.

Training and timing

The team landed in North America on Sunday and will hold training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday in Puebla before the fixture.

The friendly falls just days before Head Coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to announce Ghana’s final 26‑man World Cup squad, so the match will double as a final‑stage assessment for several players.

Purpose of the Mexico friendly

The game gives Queiroz and his technical staff a chance to test combinations, tactics, and match‑ready form against a World Cup‑host side familiar with the venues and conditions the Black Stars will face.

It also allows the coaching setup to evaluate emerging talents pushing for places in both the senior Black Stars and the Olympic‑age Black Meteors squad ahead of expanded international duties this year. This clash in Puebla will be Ghana’s latest warm‑up match as they aim to fine‑tune their World Cup‑ready team before opening their 2026 tournament campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
