Private legal practitioner Austin Kwabena Brako-Powers has questioned the President’s claim that one million jobs were created, urging that the figure be reconciled with official labour statistics.
Speaking on Current Agenda at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. Brako-Powers said while the President indicated during the State of the Nation Address that about one million jobs had been created, available data from the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) presents a more specific breakdown.
He referenced quarterly labour statistics showing that between the first and third quarters of 2025, approximately 330,000 persons gained employment, with the unemployment rate averaging about 12.8 percent over the same period.
According to him, if the one-million figure represents cumulative job gains over multiple years, it should be clearly explained as such. He stressed that official statistical releases must form the basis of public accountability discussions.
Mr. Brako-Powers said employment data should distinguish between short-term, informal and permanent jobs, adding that citizens expect clarity on how many sustainable jobs have been created within the reporting year.
He maintained that while employment growth is reflected in GSS data, public communication must ensure consistency between presidential claims and officially published figures.
