English coach Michael James Jackson has been named interim manager of Burnley Football Club, taking charge of the Clarets for their final four Premier League games after the departure of Scott Parker.
The 45‑year‑old Jackson, who has been part of Parker’s backroom staff, steps into the top role following a mutual‑consent exit that came after Burnley’s relegation to the EFL Championship was confirmed.
End of the Parker era
Burnley announced that Scott Parker left his position as head coach by mutual consent, with the club emphasising his professionalism and the respect he leaves behind at Turf Moor.
Parker had led Burnley to promotion from the Championship the previous season, delivering an impressive unbeaten run and solid defensive record, but the 2025–26 Premier League campaign proved too much as the Clarets sank into the relegation zone. At the time of his exit, Burnley were 19th in the 20‑team table, with just 20 points from four wins, eight draws, and 22 losses.
Jackson’s interim role
As interim manager, Michael Jackson will oversee the team until the end of the season, supported by the existing backroom staff. The club has no immediate plans to appoint a permanent manager, using the final four fixtures to assess the squad and allow Jackson to run a short, stabilising stint while the board reviews long‑term plans.
His familiarity with the group and coaching structure makes him a natural choice to manage the transition without disrupting the dressing‑room culture ahead of the club’s return to the Championship.
What lies ahead for Burnley
Jackson now faces the task of guiding Burnley through the psychological difficulty of a relegation end‑game, while preparing the squad for life in the second tier.
The club’s management will likely use these last matches to test options, identify key players, and decide whether Jackson can be considered for a longer‑term role or whether a fresh appointment is needed to lead the push for an immediate bounce‑back.
