The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), has called on government to address the challenges of power supply that interrupt the operations of industries. Ghanaians have recently been experiencing intermittent power outages in some parts of the country.

The Energy Minister appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm as steps are being taken to address the situation.

However, there have been speculations that the country has returned to Dumsor but Dr. Opoku Prempeh debunked claims saying there was no way government would allow the country to slip back into the prolonged period of power outages between 2012 and 2016 which became known as ‘dumsor’.

Accra Regional Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries, AGI, Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo whiles commending government on measures put in place to help revamp the economy, said businesses cannot thrive if they constantly face challenges with power supply.

Speaking to Business News, Mr. Akpeloo said interventions aimed at addressing issues within the energy sector will enable private-led businesses especially to compete fairly in the African Continental Free Trade Area.

He added, “we are also looking for mainstream support for the industry. We believe that the current power situation where industry is not having a constant flow of power is a big challenge for the industry. We are looking at a situation where government streamlines the power sector where the industry receives 24-hour constant supply of power, whiles at it, it’s also important to mention the Continental Free Trade Area, what we are looking for is a situation where Ghanaians are given the needed the environment to compete favourably with industries in other parts of Africa.”
