The Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI) has highly commended the government of Ghana on the official opening of its 2025/2026 cocoa season and the announcement of a new producer price of $5,040 per ton.

The CIGCI described the increment as a record level that reflects a sustained commitment to the welfare of cocoa farmers.

The CIGCI also commended the management of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for this bold step, which, according to the group, is an essential contribution to creating a more equitable and sustainable global cocoa market.

The Initiative also applauded the government’s commitment to upholding its promise to cocoa farmers and strengthening the foundation for a fairer and more resilient cocoa economy.

The CIGCI highlights the unprecedented cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, representing over 60% of global cocoa production, in aligning policies on farm gate pricing, market transparency, and value distribution.

This cooperation reflects a shared vision of transformation in the cocoa sector, rooted in fairness and profitability for all, especially cocoa farmers.

According to the Executive Secretary, CIGCI, Alex Assanvo, “A fair price to farmers is the first milestone to achieve a sustainable cocoa sector.”

The Executive Secretary, CIGCI, says his outfit is working with partners and stakeholders to make cocoa the world’s first truly sustainable commodity, environmentally sound, economically viable, and socially just.

“The transformation of the cocoa sector can only be achieved if it is rooted in fairness and profitability for all, especially cocoa farmers, without whom there would be no cocoa and no chocolate,” he said.
