The total value of mobile money transactions in Ghana rose to GH¢493.2 billion in April 2026, with 967 million transactions recorded, according to the Bank of Ghana’s latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026.
These figures mark an increase from the GH¢484.6 billion recorded in March 2026, underscoring the sustained expansion of the country’s digital payments sector.
The report further indicated that registered mobile money accounts rose to 83 million in April 2026, up from 80.5 million in December 2025, while active accounts remained at 26 million. Registered agents also increased to 992,000, with active agents reaching 534,000.
Mobile money float balances grew to GH¢36.7 billion in April, compared to GH¢35.4 billion in March, reflecting heightened activity in the sector.
In addition, mobile money interoperability transactions totalled GH¢5.8 billion across 31.7 million transactions for the month.
Cheque clearing transactions stood at GH¢36.6 billion, covering 413,000 transactions, while Automated Clearing House Direct Credit transactions amounted to GH¢13.5 billion from 816,000 transactions.
The data also showed that Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) Instant Pay transactions rose to GH¢79 billion in April 2026, up from GH¢71.5 billion in March, with transaction volumes approaching 19.9 million.
