Assistant Director of the Banking Department at Bank of Ghana, Eric Hammond, has asked Ghanaians to erase the erroneous impression that the new currencies in circulation were printed to keep portions for political campaigns.

He emphasised that the re-denomination or printing of new notes for a country is done periodically to upgrade the security features. Mr Hammond gave the advice at a sensitisation session for managers and staff including tellers from the banks and other financial institutions in the Western North Region at Sefwi Wiawso.

Participants were from the Ghana Commercial Bank, Agricultural Development Bank, SG SSB, Republic Bank, Rural Banks and Loans and Savings Companies. Mr Hammond said the printing of the new notes was to help check the counterfeit denominations which some fraudsters use to dupe other ignorant people.

Head of the Sefwi Boako branch of Bank of Ghana, Kwasi Arthur Donkor, promised to replicate the education in other areas, entreating participants to serve as ambassadors to help sensitize citizens.
