Desist from non-essential travel as coronavirus spreads- Minister

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has appealed to the public to desist from engaging in non-essential travel, especially to and from areas affected by the novel corona virus.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu said government’s decision not to evacuate Ghanaians from the epicenter of the outbreak in China has been a step in the right direction.

The Minister was briefing Parliament on Ghana’s preparedness against the virus.

He said government is doing everything possible to prevent the outbreak of the virus and protect Ghanaians against any infection.

The Health Minister announced that 40 suspected cases in the country have tested negative.

Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, urged the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to make basic sanitary logistics readily available. He also called for adequate training for healthcare professionals.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, described government’s funding as woefully inadequate.

He referred to a recent WHO report which identified serious lapses in Ghana’s efforts at dealing with the possible outbreak of the corona virus.

Meanwhile, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, Kwabena Mintah-Akandoh has reiterated the need for the President and members of his recent delegation to Europe to be monitored.

He said that will be in line with guidelines given by Ministry of health and the Ghana Health Service. He said this in an interaction with the media in Parliament.
