The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has awarded 61 full tertiary scholarships to students pursuing science- and agriculture-related programmes, marking another milestone in education and human capital development within the constituency.

The scholarships, which are strictly performance-based, cover the full duration of each beneficiary’s course until graduation. With this latest award, the total number of scholarships secured for constituents over the past six months has risen to 250, underscoring what Mr Ablakwa describes as a deliberate investment in youth empowerment and technical education.

Mr Ablakwa expressed appreciation to Italy for its continued support, crediting Italian partners for making the latest scholarship scheme possible. The Italian delegation was led by Italy’s Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Laura Ranalli, and included representatives from CIHEAM Bari, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), and BF.

BF, an Italian agribusiness firm operating in North Tongu, was highlighted for its contribution to local development. The company has created hundreds of jobs in the constituency and remains engaged in community development initiatives, particularly in agriculture and skills development.

Mr Ablakwa described the initiative as an example of a mutually beneficial Ghana–Italy partnership, combining education, agriculture, investment and diplomacy to deliver tangible benefits at the grassroots level.

The scholarship programme is expected to strengthen local capacity in science and agriculture, sectors considered critical to national development, food security and economic transformation.
