Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced a major boost for education, with GH¢4.2 billion provisioned for the implementation of Free Secondary Education (FSE) next year.

He made the announcement when he presented the 2026 Budget Statement presented to Parliament on Thursday, November, 13.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to accessible and quality education, Dr. Forson explained that the Ministry of Education will receive GH¢33.3 billion for its programmes and activities in 2026. Additionally, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has been allocated GH¢9.9 billion to support infrastructure and learning resources across the country.

“To end the double track system and improve the quality of secondary education, we have set aside GH¢1.1 billion under the Ghana Secondary Learning Improvement Programme (GSLIP) for 2026,” he stated.

Dr. Forson also reaffirmed the continuation of the “No Fee Stress” policy with a budget allocation of GH¢537 million, ensuring that students can pursue education without financial barriers. In a further step toward inclusive education, GH¢25 million has been earmarked for Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities.

The allocations demonstrate the government’s determination to strengthen education at all levels, reduce dropout rates, and expand access for every Ghanaian student.
